Funds paid to our office are typically sorted into four (4) types:
These security retainer funds are placed into a trust account until the money is earned or returned to a client. The attorney-client fee agreement indicates the anticipated legal services and required ongoing minimum balance. At the termination of any representation, any advances or expenses not earned or incurred are refunded.
These funds are typically paid by a client to an attorney to contractually reserve the attorney, on call, to handle the client’s general legal matters.
These funds are typically paid by a client to an attorney for specific legal services, remitted in advance to beginning the limited representation. Pursuant to the fee agreement, these funds are considered earned upon receipt.
These funds are typically paid by a client to an attorney as compensation for services rendered & costs incurred when no advance funds or general retainer funds are available.
